Shop Local in Frontier Country
It’s time again for gift giving and holiday cheer! This season we encourage you to shop local in Frontier Country. There are so many great gift shops and shopping districts here in central Oklahoma. Check out just a few of the many great local stops:
The Oklahoma City Zoo Safari Gift Shop
The Zoo may not be your first thought when holiday shopping, but I have found a number of wonderful gifts in the OKC Zoo Gift Shop! They are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Global Plaza, and you do not have to purchase Zoo admission to shop. The gift shop has an array of merchandise, from children’s books, games and educational toys for the younger ones, to home décor and locally made apparel. If you are looking for something a little different, stop by the Guest Services Office to see and purchase animal paintings. These original works of art of made by the Zoo’s resident animal artists including, birds, bears, elephants and more! One thing I love about shopping here is that in the month of December, they provide complimentary gift wrapping, so when you leave, you are all done!
The Museum Store at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
Many times museum stores are a stop at the end of your day touring exhibits, a place to get a piece of your trip. But, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage museum has so much to offer. From men’s and women’s clothing and jewelry to books and home décor, there is something for everyone at The Museum Store. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Museum, they have collaborated with Pendleton Woolen Mills in carrying a limited edition Legacy Blanket, which would make for a wonderful gift! They also carry many made-in-Oklahoma and Oklahoma related products, such as jewelry, maps and art. The Museum Store is open Monday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday noon – 5:00 p.m. For a full look of items for purchase go to store.nationalcowboymuseum.org.
If you are looking to go shopping in an area that has many stores and gifts to choose from, Downtown Edmond is the perfect spot. The best part? ALL the stores are locally owned and operated. Check out the Fashion Boutique and McCall’s for women’s and men’s apparel. If you’re looking for jewelry, try Silver Leaf Gems and Fields Jewelry for custom designs. There are so many shops and restaurants in Downtown Edmond, it is a great place to shop small! To see a full listing of local businesses, go to downtownedmond.com.
