Rock the Route Returns to Yukon August 30

This Year Features Co-Headliners: Casey Donahew & Josh Abbott Band!

The Thursday night before Labor Day, across the darkened prairie of Yukon, expect to hear the thousands of fans crying out in enjoyment of Oklahoma’s newest Red Dirt Music Festival! Rock the Route, Yukon’s popular FREE concert event, returns on August 30!  Presented by YNB, this year features not one, but TWO well-known Red Dirt Country acts! Casey Donahew and Josh Abbott Band will co-headline this year.

Celebrate the Mother Road with great quality music, food trucks, fun activities for all ages, and fireworks in downtown Yukon from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Whether you’re a die-hard red dirt or country music fan or just looking for a fun night out with friends or family, Rock the Route brings something for everyone.

In just over 10 years, Casey Donahew has risen from being a favorite on the local Texas music scene to a nationally popular touring act who consistently sells out venues across the country. Powering those shows are his successful albums, which consistently land at the top of the iTunes sales charts as well as songs on the Texas radio charts.  Donahew has released four independent albums to critical and commercial acclaim.  His 2011 release, DOUBLE WIDE DREAM, debuted at No. 2 on the ITunes Country Chart and No. 10 on the Billboard Country Chart and spawned three No. 1 singles: the title track, “Double Wide Dream,” “Let’s Not Say Goodbye Again,” and “One Star Flag.” Casey’s latest CD, STANDOFF, quickly topped the iTunes Country Chart at No. 1, upon its release, and also hit the Overall iTunes Chart in the No. 8 position.  STANDOFF has also yielded five No. 1 radio singles “Whiskey Baby,” “Small Town Love,” “Lovin’ Out of Control,” which is Donahew’s fastest rising single to date, “Not Ready To Say Goodnight” and the most recent No. 1, “Loser.”

Thanks to its inherently upbeat and singable material, Josh Abbott Band has become one of the leading acts in Texas music, winning four trophies in the inaugural Texas Regional Radio Awards. But JAB has national cred to boot – it’s landed three singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart – including “Oh, Tonight,” the first charted track to feature Grammy-winning Kacey Musgraves – and nabbed a Top 10 album with the 2012 release Small Town Family Dreams and reached No. 12 with the 2014 EP Tuesday Night. The six-piece ensemble is releasing its most ambitious project to date with the 2015 album Front Row Seat, a song cycle that follows a relationship from first meeting through its euphoric rise to a difficult breakup and contemplative aftermath. The release is accompanied by a national tour that takes the band to some of America’s most iconic country clubs.

Opening for Rock the Route is a locally acclaimed band, The Damn Quails! This band started as a weekly jam session between two Oklahoma songwriters that soon attracted all kinds of characters playing various instruments. These sessions quickly attracted a crowd, a semi-stable line-up was formed, and The Damn Quails were born. The band released their first record in 2011 entitled “Down The Hatch”.  Since then, the band has firmly established itself as a touring entity hell-bent on spreading their brand of music as far as possible. The Damn Quails carry on the great Oklahoma tradition of songwriting that draws from countless genres and has produced many memorable songs, bands, singers, and moments.  They are proud to be part of such a rich musical heritage. They have taken their cue from their musical predecessors and forged their own style that they loosely refer to as Folk Rock.

The concert, as well as many other fun activities, will take over Main Street between 4th and 5th Streets. Food trucks will be parked nearby to satisfy appetites and fireworks will cap off the evening at 11:00 p.m. Face painting, the OKC Thunder’s OG&E Thunder Bolt, and other fun kids’ activities are also available! No animals allowed.

Rock the Route would not be possible without the help of generous sponsors. The City of Yukon would also like to thank presenting sponsor YNB and additional sponsor 99.7 Hank FM for their support of Rock the Route.

No tickets are necessary, but be sure to arrive early if you want a good view. A limited amount of VIP tickets are available for purchase at $50 each (plus taxes and fees). These tickets include access to the best view at the concert! The section also has a dedicated VIP beer tent and air-conditioned restroom facilities.
