CENTRAL OKLAHOMA – Mustang’s 36th annual Western Days festival is Sept. 7-8. Friday night includes a chili cook off and gospel music. Saturday brings a pancake breakfast, fun runs, parade, the Mustang & Open Car Show, magic shows and a variety of musical entertainment. Both days include a carnival and the Mustang Round Up Club Open Rodeo all located at Highway 152 and Mustang Road.
Grand Opening Night at the OKC Philharmonic is Sept. 15 at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City. Beginning at 8 p.m., Maestro Joel Levine kicks of the 2012-2013 season and leads the OKC Philharmonic in an opening night celebration. The witty and engaging “Enigma Variations” is the orchestra’s featured selection. Guest pianist CONRAD TAO joins the Philharmonic for “Variations on a Nursery Tune” by Dohnanyi and “Totentanz” (Dance of Death) by Franz Liszt. Just 18 years old, TAO is already a major talent in demand for performances around the world. Tickets are $15 - $52.
Chickasha’s 4th Annual Rock Island Arts Festival is Sept. 28-30 at the Historic Rock Island Depot. Featured will be fine art displays, live music and entertainment, wine tasting and delicious food. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., browse booths filled with sculpture, paintings, oils, acrylics, watercolors, wood crafts, jewelry, ceramics and more.
Join Thomas the Tank Engine for a Day Out with Thomas Sept. 28-30 and Oct. 5-7 at the Oklahoma Railway Museum in Oklahoma City. Meet Sir Topham Hat, enjoy storytelling, live music, moon bounces, build with Lego Duplo bricks and more. Advance purchase is recommended.
Family farms throughout central OK begin their fall activities this September including Daze in a Maze in Enid opening Labor Day weekend, Orr Family Farm in Oklahoma City opening on Sept. 22, Mikles Family Farm in Shawnee opening on Sept. 28 and the Reding Farm in Chickasha opening on Sept. 28.
