CENTRAL OKLAHOMA – Yukon celebrates their
Czech heritage with the Yukon Czech
Festival Oct. 1 in downtown Yukon. Beginning at 8 a.m., this free
festival includes a parade, carnival, crafts, live music, Czech food and a
coronation. A dance at Czech Hall will be the finale at 8 p.m. For more info: yukoncc.com.
Stockyard’s City hosts the first STOCKtoberfest Beer Festival Oct. 15 in historic Stockyards City in Oklahoma City. From 5 to 9 p.m. sample more than 30 local and regional beers along with food, music and a mechanical bull. Tickets are $15 and include beer tastings and a free coozie. Remington Park’s marquee Thoroughbred event of the year is the 23rd running of the Oklahoma Derby Oct. 16. Oklahoma Derby Day not only features Oklahoma’s richest thoroughbred race, but also includes a wide variety of family-friendly activities beginning at noon with an extreme animal zoo, magician, inflatables, mechanical bull, live music, food vendors and more. The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on the OU campus in Norman opens the new Stuart Wing and the Installation of the Eugene B. Adkins Collection Oct. 22 with a free grand opening celebration Oct. 23 from noon to 5 p.m. This exhibition showcases Eugene B. Adkins’ impressive collection of American and Native American art from the Southwest including paintings, prints, jewelry, pottery and basketry in the newly renovated galleries of the FJJMA. Oct. 22 also marks the reinstallation of several other permanent collections and the opening of the newest exhibition - No Heaven Awaits Us: Contemporary Chinese Photography & Video on display through Dec. 30. Experience a one-of-a-kind shopping extravaganza for all ages at An Affair of the Heart Oct. 21-23. Located at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, An Affair of the Heart features several buildings of arts, crafts, custom furniture, jewelry, clothing, home décor, seasonal items and much more.
