Central Oklahoma’s Event Calendar June 2012

The following is a truncated list of events occurring in Central Oklahoma Frontier Country.

CENTRAL OKLAHOMA – Celebrate the history of the western heritage Cajun-style at the Chisholm Trail Crawfish Festival at the Kirkpatrick Family Farm in Yukon, June 2. The free festival includes living history reenactments, chicken and crawfish races, pony rides, gunfights, crawfish-eating contest, Kids Kreative Korral, Marvin the Mechanical Bull, live music and more from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more info: 405-350-8937, cityofyukonok.gov.

The Red Earth Native American Cultural Festival is June 8-10 at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City. More than 1,200 American Indian artists and dancers will gather to celebrate the richness and diversity of their heritage with the world. The Chandler Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the Hog Wild BBQ & Chrome Fest at Tilghman Park, June 15-16. The event is a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned Oklahoma State Championship BBQ contest along with two days of activities for the whole family including vendors, crafters, children’s activities, fireworks, car and bike show and live music. Norman’s Jazz in June features a three-evening summer concert series June 21-23. Jazz in June Festival continues its 28-year tradition of bringing Oklahoma and national jazz and blues artists free to the public from 6 to 11 p.m. nightly. For more info: 405-593-9060, visitnorman.com.
