Central Oklahoma’s Event Calendar January 2012

The following is a truncated list of events occurring in Central Oklahoma Frontier Country.

CENTRAL OKLAHOMA Throughout January and February, enjoy Free Mondays at the Oklahoma City Zoo. Guests of all ages will receive free admission each Monday through February. Zoo hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information: okczoo.com.

The 42nd International Finals Rodeo is Jan. 13-15 at the State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City. The IFR includes four performances throughout the weekend featuring the top 15 cowboys and cowgirls of the International Pro Rodeo Association competing for World Championship titles. Performance times are Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 14 at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m., and Jan. 15 at 1:30 p.m. The sports action is mixed with patriotic pageantry, comedy and specialty entertainment. The Red Earth Museum in downtown Oklahoma City opens their newest exhibition Light Foot - Strong Heart: The Photography of John Jernigan Jan. 14. With more than 30 years of experience in advertising, architectural and editorial photography, John Jernigan presents a variety of stunning images he took during the Red Earth Festival. The exhibit is on display through March 31. The Red Earth Museum & Gallery is free and open to the public Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information: redearth.org.

Enjoy a Family Day at Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman Jan. 22. Explore art in the museum’s permanent collection and new temporary exhibitions, and enjoy a variety of hands-on art activities for the entire family from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information: ou.edu/fjjma.

Lyric Theatre opens its 2012 season Jan. 25 with the comedy Xanadu. The hilarious roller-skating muscial runs through Feb. 11 at Lyric at the Plaza location on NW 16th Street in Oklahoma City. For more information and tickets: lyrictheatreokc.com.
