Independence Day Events in Frontier Country

CENTRAL OKLAHOMA – Communities in central Oklahoma are celebrating America’s birthday with spectacular fireworks displays, outdoor concerts and family-friendly entertainment.

         Venture through Frontier Country to enjoy these patriotic celebrations in Oklahoma City, Midwest City, Edmond, Moore, Yukon, El Reno, Shawnee, and Seminole.

Oklahoma City

            Visit the Myriad Botanical Gardens July 4 for a Salute to the Red, White and Blue! The Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory offers free admission all day to visitors wearing our nation’s colors. Or, visit Frontier City for Randy Travis in concert and a fireworks display, both free with regular park admission.

Midwest City

            Midwest City’s Tribute to Liberty- Play at the Park, Sky Light at Dark at Joe B. Barnes Regional Park will kick-off at 6 p.m. with a concert from rock ‘n’ roll bands playing tunes from the 1950s to today. At dark, the night sky will become a masterpiece of breathtaking fireworks creating one of Oklahoma’s largest fireworks displays.

Edmond

         Named “one of the top 10 places to be in America on July Fourth” by CNN and “USA Today,” LibertyFest in Edmond will have 11 festival events starting June 25.  Festival events include a car show, synchronized and lighted kite festival, food festival, road rally, rodeo, a fun, family chalk event, beauty pageant, concert and more.

         On July 4, see Oklahoma’s largest hometown July Fourth parade with more than 100 entries. The parade starts at 9 a.m. and follows a downtown Edmond route. At 5 p.m., ParkFest kicks off at the University of Central Oklahoma Campus with games, activities, food and music entertainment and fantastic fireworks at 10 p.m.

Moore

            Enjoy live music, food, wineries and more at Art in the Park: A Celebration of the Heartland 2009 at Buck Thomas Park in Moore July 3 from 5 to 10 p.m. and July 4 from noon to 10 p.m. Family-friendly activities include inflatables, a Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution tournament, a children’s art tent and a giant sand pit.

Yukon

         On July 3, the City of Yukon hosts a Tribute to Veterans at Chisholm Trail Park   with entertainment from Irv Wagner’s Concert Band and a fireworks show.

         Yukon’s Freedom Fest is July 4 at the Chisholm Trail Park and Yukon City Park with many activities for the whole family, including a car show, children’s parade, free swimming, live music from the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and a huge fireworks display at dusk.

El Reno

          The City of El Reno is hosting a big fireworks display at dusk July 4 at Lake El Reno. The event is free and open to the public.

Shawnee

            Check out the 2nd Annual Fourth of July Boat Parade at Shawnee Twin Lakes or see an impressive fireworks display at FireLake Grand Casino or the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center July 4.

Seminole

            Play at the 4th of July Festival in Seminole July 4 from 2 p.m. to dark at Magnolia Park. Play games, listen to live music, sample tasty treats and watch the fireworks display at dark.
