NORMAN – Frontier Country Marketing Association presented 13 awards to its members and celebrated the association’s 40th anniversary during its 2018 Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon June 21 at the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort in Shawnee.

Members of central Oklahoma’s multi-county organization were asked to submit entries in 10 award categories recognizing outstanding tourist attractions, exhibitions, events, communities and tourism-related businesses in Frontier Country. 

"Our Annual Awards Luncheon is about recognizing our members and their contributions to tourism in central Oklahoma," said Sherri Rogers, Executive Director of Frontier Country Marketing Association. "This is our way of saying 'thank you' to all of our members who continue to do a wonderful job promoting the many communities, attractions, events and festivals throughout Frontier Country."

The following list includes Frontier Country award winners:

  • Outstanding Event or Festival: National Reining Horse Association Futurity
  • Best Website: International Finals Youth Rodeo
  • Outstanding Children’s Attraction or Event: International Finals Youth Rodeo 2017
  • Outstanding Publication: Christmas in the Park; City of Yukon
  • Outstanding Exhibit: Yukon Veterans Museum; Yukon, OK
  • Outstanding Hotel: The Grand Casino Resort Hotel; Shawnee, OK
  • Outstanding Tourism Employee of the Year:  Justin Dunsworth, The Grand Casino Hotel & Resort; Shawnee, OK
  • Outstanding Sports Event or Venue: 48th Annual International Finals Rodeo
  • Outstanding Restaurant: The Lokal; Yukon, OK
  • Outstanding Locally Owned Business: One Faith Boutique; Yukon, OK
  • Outstanding Tourism Community: Visit Norman
  • Kinlee Farris Award recognizes an individual who has provided outstanding service, behind the scenes in tourism-related activities, events & promotions: Sharon Lair, Remington Park; Oklahoma City
  • George Nigh Award recognizes a team or business who has made an impact on tourism, through their leadership, advocacy, collaboration and/or participation in industry events and Frontier Country: USA SOFTBALL / USA National Hall of Fame & Museum; Oklahoma City.

Additionally, Frontier Country Marketing Association recognized members who are celebrating milestones this year and they include:

  • Board Member Tom Collins representing Cleveland County for 20 years of service
  • Oklahoma City Zoo Celebrates 20 Years as an accredited Botanical Garden, Living Museum
  • Visit Norman celebrates their 25th anniversary
  • Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum; Seminole, Oklahoma celebrates their 25th anniversary
  • Remington Park celebrates their 30th anniversary
  • Norman Assistance League celebrates the 45th Anniversary of May Fair Arts Festival
  • Frontier City; Oklahoma City celebrates their 60th anniversary
