Central Oklahoma’s Event Calendar February 2014

CENTRAL OKLAHOMA – Throughout February, enjoy Free Mondays at the Oklahoma City Zoo. Guests of all ages will receive free admission each Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Chocolate Festival, hosted by Norman’s Firehouse Art Center, is Feb. 1 at the National Center for Employee Development (NCED) in Norman. From 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the annual Chocolate Festival showcases a dazzling array of chocolate decadence, as the finest restaurants and chocolatiers in Norman tempt your taste buds with their chocolate creations. Ticket prices vary.

Experience a one-of-a-kind shopping extravaganza for all ages at An Affair of the Heart Feb. 7-9. Located at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, An Affair of the Heart features several buildings of arts, crafts, custom furniture, jewelry, clothing, home décor, seasonal items and much more. Admission is $7 and covers all three days of the show.

The third annual Yukon Chocolate Festival “Affair Extraordinaire” is Feb. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Robertson Activity Center. More than 20 local businesses will offer their chocolate delights and a silent auction will also feature a variety of chocolate creations. Admission is $8 and includes six tastes.

Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman opens a new exhibit, “Ramp It Up: Skateboard Culture in Native America”, Feb. 8. Skateboarding is one of the most popular sports on Indian reservations, inspiring and influencing American Indian and Native Hawaiian communities since the 1960s. This new traveling exhibition celebrates the vibrancy, creativity and history of American Indian skateboarding culture. “Ramp It Up” is on display through June 15.

  • Voices: A Sculptural Book, Feb. 1-March 23 at Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee
  • Red Earth Celebrates Oklahoma Textiles, Feb. 1-June 30 at Red Earth Museum in Oklahoma City
  • “Walter Ufer: Rise, Fall, Resurrection”, Feb. 7-May 11 at National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
