Celebrate Father's Day in Frontier Country
CENTRAL OKLAHOMA – Take dad to one of central Oklahoma’s Frontier Country restaurants, attractions or exhibits for some fun on Father’s Day weekend. Several attractions in Frontier Country are offering exclusive activities and discounts for dads and their children.
Father’s Day Fiesta at the Orr Family Farm
Father’s Day a day early on June 14 at the Orr Family Farm in south Oklahoma City where all dads get half-off admission. The Father’s Day Fiesta kicks off with a Toe Fishing Contest from 1 to 2 p.m. Children and dads can tie as many strings on their toes as they like and fish off the dock to compete for a $150 gift certificate to spend on the farm.
Dads can cheer their children ages 4 to 12 on from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Tractor Pedal Pull Contest. All children receive a ribbon and winners in each age group receive a $10 gift certificate plus eligibility for the state competition.
Dads and children can team up once again in the Cow Milking Contest from 4 to 5 p.m. Teams of two to four will try to milk as much as they can from “Bessie” in two minutes time. The winning team will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Orr Family Farm gift shop.
The Crystal Bridge at the Myriad Botanical Gardens
Visit a tropical paradise in the heart of Oklahoma City. The Crystal Bridge at the Myriad Botanical Gardens offers free admission to dads with a paying family member June 15. Also, all dads are eligible for a special prize drawing. The Crystal Bridge features 17 acres of palm trees, exotic plants, crashing waterfalls and animal life to enjoy, plus its new interactive summer exhibit “Passport to Plants.”
Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History
Take dad on a journey through Oklahoma’s natural history and into ancient and modern world cultures at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman. There is free admission for dads from 1 to 5 p.m. June 15 courtesy of TIAA-CFEF’s Oklahoma College Savings Plan. Lead dad on an exploration through hundreds of displays in the Hall of Ancient Life, the Hall of the People of Oklahoma, the Hall of Natural Wonders, the Gallery of World Cultures and the Discovery Room. Plus check out the new Paleozoic Gallery, which opened May 31, and covers 4 billion years of Earth’s history. Plus there is an exciting summer exhibit “The Science of SuperCroc featuring Nigersaurus,” which has a full-scale reproduction of the world’s largest crocodile.
Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum
The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is offering free admission to all fathers with paid admission to the Memorial Museum on Father’s day. Visitors can see the temporary exhibit “Reporting Terrorism,” which is a multimedia look behind the camera and the newsroom and what it takes to report in a crisis.
