CENTRAL OKLAHOMA – The Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City opens a new exhibit, Aug. 2 titled Generation Next: Chapter Two by Desmond Mason. The temporary exhibit showcases 15 original pieces by artist and former professional basketball player, Desmond Mason and is on display through Oct. 27.

The charming gift shops, unique antique stores and flavorful restaurants on Historic Rt. 66 in Bethany show an authentic slice of small-town America in the heart of the big city during Downtown Bethany’s Second Saturday, Aug 11. Merchants hold special sales and interesting activities during the second Saturday of each month.

Remington Park’s 2012 Thoroughbred Season begins Aug. 10 in Oklahoma City. Running from Aug. through Dec. 9, racing will be conducted on Friday and Saturday nights for two weeks before Wednesday and Thursday nights are added to the weekly schedule beginning Aug. 22. Normal post time is 6:30 p.m. Enjoy live racing, casino, restaurants and more.

The Choctaw Oktoberfest is now a nine-day festival held at Choctaw Creek Park beginning Aug. 31 through Sept. 8. Hosted by Old Germany Restaurant, the City of Choctaw and the Choctaw Chamber, festival takes place 30,000 square feet of tents and pavilion featuring German food, beer, wine, dancing and fun. Admission is $5 for ages 12 and over.

Free outdoor concerts series’ continue throughout August all over Frontier Country. Yukon’s Concerts in the Park at Chisholm Trail Park are Aug. 2, 9 and 16 at 7 p.m. Edmond’s Outdoor Concerts in the Park at Hafer Park are Aug. 2, 9 and 16 at 7:15 p.m. Norman’s Summer Breeze Concerts at Lions Park are Aug. 5 and 26 at 7 p.m.
