For the exhibition, New York-based Peters has created sculptural installations specifically for presentation in the Museum's galleries. The physicality of Peters' work is reinforced by a large-scale presence and use of ready-made objects. During a one-month residency at the Museum, Peters will work with area college art students in the construction and installation of his work, thus providing a great opportunity for student artists to gain significant skills and experience.

This exhibition continues with a new selection of photographs from the collection of former OU painting faculty member Carol Beesley, including works by such artists as Alma Levenson, Alan Ross, Julie Graber, Andrew Strout, Robert Dawson and John Pfahl. Cost is free.

This exhibit presents a wonderful selection of baskets and ceramics produced by Native Americans from the Southwest region. The exhibit provides an important opportunity to view historic pieces from the Ethnology collections of SNOMNH and contemporary works from the collections of the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in a single venue. These objects are used to present stories of maintenance and revival, of tradition and innovation. The art forms continue to provide an important element of individual and community identity and a major arena for native and non-native interaction. The exhibition features works from a range of communities including the Navajo, Hopi, Tohono O’odam, Western Apache, and Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, Santa Domingo and Acoma Pueblos.

2 p.m. (1940) Nominated for an Oscar in Best Original Screenplay. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Dr. Max Erlich makes several valuable contributions to medical science. Among these was the ability to develop a serum to fight diseases such as typhoid by slowly building up natural immunities. From these successes, Erlich moved on to using chemicals as a cure for disease. His success at finding a cure for syphilis proves his ideas to be correct but he is forced to defend them in court when he sues a colleague for libel. Unrated. Free with paid museum admission.

This exhibition provides a rare insight into the prevalence of performed music among 19th century Americans. With the birth of photography, many musicians—including Civil War soldiers, cowboys, Vaudeville performers and middle-class Victorians—were able to pose with their favorite instruments to show their pride and love of music. The images were collected over a period of 25 years by historian and musician Mark L. Gardner and the vast majority have never been published or assembled for public view.
