Central Oklahoma's Frontier Country

This exhibit presents about 30 of Bonita Wa Wa Calachaw Nuñez pencil drawings and representative examples of her journals and sketchbooks. Exhibit runs daily from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Museum visitors get a rare chance to view “The Kiss” (“Le Baiser”), one of only five lifetime casts, on this scale, of the bronze statue by Auguste Rodin (1840-1917).

This exhibition presents for the first time a major sampling of the steppe art from the renowned collections of the late Arthur M. Sackler, MD.

This exhibition continues with a new selection of photographs from the collection of former OU painting faculty member Carol Beesley, including works by such artists as Alma Levenson, Alan Ross, Julie Graber, Andrew Strout, Robert Dawson and John Pfahl. Cost is free.

This exhibit presents a wonderful selection of baskets and ceramics produced by Native Americans from the Southwest region. The exhibit provides an important opportunity to view historic pieces from the Ethnology collections of SNOMNH and contemporary works from the collections of the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in a single venue. These objects are used to present stories of maintenance and revival, of tradition and innovation. The art forms continue to provide an important element of individual and community identity and a major arena for native and non-native interaction. The exhibition features works from a range of communities including the Navajo, Hopi, Tohono O’odam, Western Apache, and Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, Santa Domingo and Acoma Pueblos.

When a baker and his wife learn they’ve been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red Ridinghood, Rapunzel and Jack (of the beanstalk fame). Everyone’s wish is granted but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with heart breaking results. Directed by Gregory Hopkins with Musical Direction by Mark McQuade & Jennifer McQuade.

Often a stunning visual art form, the guitar is the star of this exhibit. Learn about the making of guitars and see nearly 50 examples—including many that are historically significant or guitars that are truly works of art.
