“One Hundred Summers: A Kiowa Calendar Record"

May 1st, 2009 All Day - August 23rd, 2009
A special exhibition featuring the art of renowned Kiowa artist Silver Horn. The calendar record illustrates 100 years of Kiowa history through pictorial vignettes marking two seasons each year; one for summer and one for winter. The exhibit will highlight a never-before-exhibited treasure to educate the public about the political, religious, economic and social spheres of Kiowa life in a century of dramatic change and adaptation. The exhibit also demonstrates the importance of conserving invaluable works of ethnographic art and showcases the science behind object conservation in the stewardship of museum collections. This exhibit is made possible by the Kirkpatrick Foundation and the Merkel Family Foundation.

Cocktails on the Skyline, Roof Terrace Opens

Thursdays and Fridays through October 2009. All ages are welcome. Must be 21 years or older to be served alcohol. We offer a full bar, complimentary chips and salsa, and the beautiful ambiance and incomparable view of the Oklahoma City skyline. Join downtown workers, the suburbs' adventurous, concert and film goers, and the art crowd for Cocktails on the Skyline. Admission: $12 adults, $10 seniors and students, free for members. 5 to 10:30 p.m., Last call: 10 p.m., Galleries close at 9 p.m.

Spirit Red: Visions of Native American Artists from the Rennard

June 4th, 2009 All Day - September 13th, 2009
Opening reception is Wednesday, June 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. In the summer of 2007, Dr. Rennard Strickland, an Oklahoma citizen of Osage and Cherokee heritage and a passionate collector of Indian art, announced that he wished to give his remarkable collection of more than 200 works of Native American art to the museum in memory of his mother Adell Tucker Strickland. In conjunction with the Red Earth festival opening, his collection appears in this new exhibition, which includes paintings, baskets, pottery, textiles and sculpture, representing some of the most acclaimed artists of the 20th century to the present. Strickland’s vision and knowledge about Native arts makes this one of the more remarkable contemporary collections to be donated to the museum.

Summer Critter Youth Camp

Learn while having fun! Campers will learn about animals and the environment around them-from the interconnection of all life forms to how baby animals start their lives and the types of camouflage they use to hunt and hide. One day will be spent at the Oklahoma City Zoo guided by an instructor. Campers will touch and learn with different animals each day (hand sanitizer provided and required.) Crafts and snacks included. Suitable for ages 9 to 12. Tuition: Museum Members $75, Nonmembers $85.Limited enrollment; advance reservations required. 9 a.m. to Noon.
